With Disney’s encouragement, Thomas also penned “The Art of Animation” which explores the animation process and gives Disney animators due credit for their creativity and talent. “Walt Disney: an American Original,” by Bob Thomas, is considered a definitive biography of Walt Disney based on years of research and featuring rare photographs. “The Early Life of Walt Disney” by Andrew Stanley Kiste (through Hoopla) seeks to put Disney in context by exploring the history surrounding the major events in his life while the DVD, Walt Before Mickey, explores the events leading up to the creation of Mickey Mouse. If you are intrigued enough to learn more about a man who has cast his shadow on America since the early 1920’s, the Abilene Public Library has many materials you can check out to separate the real man from the many myths and urban legends. All of which can still be enjoyed to this day. However, Walt would go on to create the first full-length animated feature, themed amusement park and audio-animatronics.
